When Was The Nobel Prize First Awarded?

The Nobel Prize is an internationally prestigious award that annually awards outstanding achievements in various fields. Established in 1895 in accordance with the will of the Swedish chemist, engineer and industrialist Alfred Nobel, this award was distributed for the first time in 1901 after Nobel’s death. The Nobel Prize is awarded in six categories defined by Nobel in his will:

1. Nobel Prize in Physics: Awarded for outstanding contributions to the field of physics.

2. Nobel Prize in Chemistry: Awarded for outstanding contributions in the field of chemistry.

3. Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology: Awarded for outstanding contributions in the field of medicine or physiology.

4. Nobel Prize in Literature: Awarded according to the importance of creativity and works in the field of literature.

5. Nobel Prize for Peace: Awarded for contributions to world peace or disarmament.

6. Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Science (in Memory of Nobel) : Awarded for contributions to studies in economic science. Unlike other Nobel prizes, the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Science is not directly mentioned in Alfred Nobel’s will, but was established in 1968 as a prize in the field of economics.

The Nobel Prizes are selected annually from among the nominees proposed by the award Decrees. The award committees are composed of jury members consisting of experts for each category. The Nobel Prizes are presented to the laureates in the form of a financial award (monetary prize), a Nobel medal and a diploma. The awards are a sign of prestige that recognizes that the work done by the winners has a scientific, cultural or peaceful impact throughout the world. The Nobel Prizes are awarded every year on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, at the Nobel Prize Ceremony.
